Testimonials

Our commitment to quality design creates attractive buildings that tenants are proud to live in. The rooftop addition at 25 Leonard won a City of Toronto Design Award, and enclosing the balconies at 138 Pears has been recognized as an innovative example of Tower Renewal.

CMHC acknowledged the innovative nature of our housing by giving St. Clare’s an award for “Best Practices in Social Housing”. Bricks and mortar are only the start; what makes our housing unique is the communities the tenants create. Safe inclusive communities support successful tenancies. Successful tenancies provide our tenants with the stability they need to pursue other goals such as furthering their education or re-entering the workforce.

Our accolades include:

“As an advisor to St. Clare’s for over a decade, I’ve been impressed with how St. Clare’s just gets things done and done well. Smart, creative, innovative and able to tackle any challenge that stands in the way of developing much needed quality affordable housing in this city.”

– Kumail Karimjee, Karimjee Law

“St. Clare’s is [the] model for the new approach to building social housing…”

– Don Drummond, Former Chief Economist for TD Bank

“The people of St. Clare’s are very nice people, helping us all the time in different situations. For example, if something is going bad between us, these people find a solution for any situation. If something in the building is broken or missing or in bad condition, St. Clare’s people repair it right away. I want to thank St. Clare’s for giving me this apartment where I’m living now. Lastly, St. Clare’s team is wonderful. They deserve all the confidence, respect and attention that they need. Thanks so much for everything.”

– G.B., Tenant

“It was very positive and important for me, especially because of the workers who are so dedicated to their jobs and helped me. I made friends, I felt comfortable. We need a lot more housing like this, quiet and safe.”

– M.A., tenant

“In St. Clare’s we saw our own future on a much more ambitious scale, but with the same underlying philosophy and values at its core. The detailed information they were willing to share meant that we could move forward with a model of affordable housing and support that demonstrated both sustainability and accessibility with much greater confidence and optimism.”

– Bob Cottrell, President, All-Together Affordable Housing Corporation

“As well as producing its “internal” success, St. Clare’s also devotes substantial energy to outreach work. It shares the tools by which its model operates as an adopted part of its mandate. St. Clare’s generosity with information and support sets the standard.”

– Marilyn Jackson, Family Action Committee: A Voice for Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities

“St. Clare’s freely shared their own expertise in the operations of their buildings, the designs they used to incorporate special needs and mobility issues and tips that help developers like myself to create an accessible and barrier-free environment for individuals facing significant challenges and barriers in their own personal lives. Their openness and transparency have been incredibly useful to me in deciding the kinds of affordable and supportive housing projects I should be working to develop collaboratively with like-minded agencies and organizations within the Hastings-Prince Edward communities to address the issues outlined in our local ten year plan to address housing needs and homelessness.”

– Phil Spry, President, Springdale Development Inc.
